100 Stories (originally The Cancer Chapter) was started by Helena Traill in February 2019 as part of her Graphic Communication Design degree at Central Saint Martins.
1 in 2 people will develop cancer in their lifetime. So the majority of the population will either be directly or indirectly affected by cancer. In Helena’s case her father has been living with two brain tumours since she was 3 years old and her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2019.
As a designer Helena is trying to tackle the taboo subject that is ‘cancer’ head on, by narrating other people’s stories. Whether it’s through the creation of the 100 Stories Book, creating animations or the new 100+ podcast. Helena is pushing the ways in which visual story telling can reach her audience and make a real difference.
